The “Digital Master” Book Series Summary

“Digital Master” is the series of guidebooks (21+ books) to perceive the multi-faceted impact digital is making to the businesses and society, help forward-thinking organizations navigate through the journey in a systematic way. Digital Master refers to those high-performing, highly innovative and high-mature (less than 15%) digital organizations; at the individual level, Digital Masters are those cross-generational digital professionals who are equipped with the advanced digital minds and build a unique set of digital capabilities.

There are three cores in “Digital Master”: Innovation, Information Technology, and Leadership. And there is the multitude of digital management capabilities the business must master of. Businesses simply can’t depend on happenstance, and the most successful ones understand that clearly, the better way is to crack digital serendipity code, and build the full set of digital capabilities and unleash business potential.

There are three books in “Digital Master,” specifically brainstorm digital innovation from different angles: Unpuzzling Innovation from the management perspective; unlock IT innovation from information management perspective, and brainstorm 100 creativity ingredients from talent development perspective.

Information & Technology Core: The business paradigm is shifting from the industrial age to a new digital era. IT plays a pivotal role in digital transformation with many expectations from business partners: The business needs IT to deliver services that drive productivity and effectiveness; the business wants fit-for-purpose IT solutions that enable them to be efficient in delivering products and services to their market at the right cost to deliver profits to the shareholders. Every business needs IT to provide better information as a nervous system for making effective decisions and improving profitability. And every business is also looking for IT to explore innovative practices for complexity management, data transformation, quality improvement and agile construction etc.

Leadership Core:
Digital is a disruption with rapidly increasing speed and hyperconnectivity to break down silos and rigid hierarchy. Digitalization implies the full-scale changes in the way business are conducted and society is running, and it starts with leadership innovation. The substance of leadership never changes, it’s all about making positive influences, and providing direction, both for oneself and others. Leadership is about CHANGE. It is a basic human ability to inspire self and others to look beyond limitations and make continuous improvement.
Digital Board of Directors: Modern corporate boards play significant roles in guiding businesses toward the right direction and achieve expected business results. Due to the “VUCA” characteristics -Complexity, Uncertainty, Ambiguity and Velocity of the Digital Era, the directorship in any organization must have the agility to adapt to changes and build abilities to advise, inspire and motivate a group of people toward accomplishing shared visions and goals.

Multiple Digital Management Disciplines: As this notion of “digitization” is now affecting all aspects of business operations from innovation within and around business ecosystem to customer engagement, to business models and processes – and no industry is exempt. Hence, most companies naturally aim to move into a more advanced stage of digital deployment by tailoring their own unique strength and business maturity. They hope to outstrip competitors and eventually become the digital masters.

The Digital transformation, like the computer technology revolution itself, is a long journey. The outlines of the fully digitalized world have long been sketched, now the phenomenon of digital is reaching the inflection point, yet we are now entering an even more rapid and extensive period of change and digitalization. "Digital Master" intends to throw some light to make such a journey adventurous and enjoyable.
